Adoption

Much like other areas of law, adoptions may be contested or uncontested. Many of the cases we handle at Kolker Law Offices involve a step-parent adopting a step-child. Whether the child's natural parent, whose rights are going to be terminated by the adoption, consents to the adoption or not determines whether the adoption will be contested.

Terminating parental rights is a serious matter when a parent does not consent to it. The parent must be found unfit by the court and this may take a substantial presentation of evidence. While this is the most important aspect of an adoption, Illinois law requires strict compliance with all the procedures for adoption. Please contact our office for more information on the adoption process and how we may guide you through it.
